10 Cheap & Fun Things to Do in A VERY Windy Day

SINGAPORE: One person said it has become so difficult to play tennis, while another is putting off plans to go on a picnic.

Singapore Polytechnic has even decided, for safety reasons, to take down two banners after one was blown away.

Some feathers have certainly been ruffled by the winds in Singapore this week. In a country where the average wind speed is around 15 to 20 kilometres per hour, it has reached the time of the year when that figure goes up to 30 to 40 kmh.

Yesterday and on Wednesday, when this newspaper checked the National Environment Agency’s website, which lists a range of forecasts such as fair, cloudy and rain, there was only one outlook for all five districts and 45 town areas – windy.

- Yes, I realized the enjoyable wind lately as standing around in the 10th Floor corridors feels more windy then usual.

Then the news article above comes up to shed some lights to these strong winds, be very glad that we are not getting continuous flood causing rain like Malaysia.

1. Go Fly Kite
Yes Literally!

I have always admire those kites flying in the sky during the windy days some of the is so breath taking that you had to simply relax one corner at the park just to enjoy the sky with those flying kites.

I saw some uncles flying the kite and resting on the grass simply watching and enjoying a great weekend. It does bring back memories of the past…

2. Buy A Good Bubble Machine Toy!

Bubbles in a windy day is VERY fun and if you haven’t tried any bubble making toy gun, you should try it now at a windy day.

The bubble will go far and wide amusing many on lookers with “ooohh” and “ahh” while the bubbles crosses roads and fly up towards the heaven!

Try it on a higher level to see greater spread of the bubbles! recommend at the roof level of Multilevel Car Parks.

3. Make A DIY WindMill For Fun!

There are many simple instructions found online to do a small wind mill just for fun or serious school projects to impress girls or teachers.

4. Jog Or Walk the Park!

Seriously great day to jog or walk in the park during a windy day especially great to walk your dog too as it’s not hot to do it in the day and not humid at night.

5. BUY Colorful Windmills!!

These windmills bring out the happiness of kids when you see a bunch of them spinning in the wind!

Put it near your homes or bring a bunch out to the beach…

Put it on the ground and let the windmill spin away!

6. Open Your Windows & Enjoy The Breeze NOW!

Mind you, I am not promoting WINDOW software but the opened window with fresh wind blowing into your face instantly refreshing for a tired or stressed up individuals.

It does miracles to the emotions and if enjoying it with friends or family will be even better.

The touching moment of silence…just the sound of the wind blowing past our body.

7. Go to the tallest site and enjoy the breeze…shout in the wind.

I ever saw a Korean romantic movie call “My Sassy Girl” starring Jun Ji-hyun when she went up a hill with her then boy friend to shout across to another hill…(Or is it Windstruck?)

There are several places to climb up

  • Bukit Timah Hill
  • The hill near Bukit Gombak MRT towards Little Guilin Behind the Stadium
  • Multilevel Carparks

8. Fly a Paper Airplane

I ever used a A3 drawing paper to create the “largest” paper plane ever and throw it against the wind!!

Imagine the facination of the plane going a longer distances with bigger wind!

Here are some of the instructions to build a nice paper planes!! Many Designs are not flyable but try to innovate and try and error!

A fantasitc way to spend time with your kids or friends!

9. Create a solar powered balloon out of trash bags!!

I came across some videos on solar balloons and find it fascinating, I am not sure if these balloons work in a windy day but it might be worth a try!

10. Get A Great Flying Toy!!

There are many flying toy in the local Toy’R Us or toy shops but I am not sure if they fly great like the video or not….
