Age Old Marketing Scams: Lucky Draw
According to SGForum
Dear All,Today, someone called my mobile number informing me that I have been fortunate to win in a lucky draw. The lady spent some 10 minutes explaining as follows:
>> I have won a lucky draw from some shopping center
>> I need to personally come and collect the prize with my wife
>> And attend a special 3 hour presentation of the prize/sTo all of the above, I told her; “I know about such marketing tricks, it’s similar to TimShare scam some years ago. Don’t you know it’s all over the INTERNET and everyone knows the trick?“
She still insist that they’re LICENSED, have Police Clearance, and all that crap. I told her; “Of course you are registered, and what has Police got to do with you if people merely gets entrapped by your hidden terms in the Agreements they sign?” She ran out of words and wanted to hand me over to her SUPERVISOR and I just hung up.
Ladies & Gentlemen of this Forum, WE must stop this kind of BULL-CRAP business from striving because of the following points:
>> our personal details/particulars such as address, IC numbers and contact numbers are not safe in the hands of such people/businesses.
>> Furthermore, WHERE & HOW did they obtain personal details from? Easy, those Lucky Draw Coupons you need to fill in at shopping centers wherein if you purchase a certain amount you get so many coupons. These coupons when the draw date is over, were NOT discarded PROPERLY. I think they were sold.
>> This accessibility and IMPROPER handling of public’s personal details, MUST be brought up to the attention of the proper authorities, so that these opportunistic businesses & or companies, cannot capitalize on the ill-informed, and the less read people in society.
- 4 years back when I was seeking new jobs, I saw in the newspaper of a telemarketers job that promises high pay for a few hours work per day. I went there to interview and was told to read a paper which contains telephone scripts. I waited for 1 hour for more interviewees to come and hold a mass interview.
The whole interview room got at least 7 people waiting to be interviewed in front of the boss and took turns to read the script. Strangely Most of them are lacking the “emotion” and very “robotic” reading the script.
Guess what is the script??
“Hello Mr. xxx” “Congratulation! You have won a contest! Come down to the shopping centre to attend a 2 hour seminar to get your prize!”
I realized that this is a Travel Company that sells time share at the shopping centre. The people who signed up did not read the terms and condition and are tricked to pay for things that are not as good as they promised. The contract “cooling” or “graced time” to be back out is about 7 days and after that no law can fight for breaking the contract without the stipulated penalties in the terms and condition.
Please BE VERY CAREFUL. I rejected the boss even I was chosen to be the one out of 7 others to be employed. My sister was tricked before this interview so it’s kind of bad karma if I join even if it’s a high pay job.
