Not sure if the above list is accurate but the newspaper did mentioned that Singapore had virtually banned all milk related products from China as of September 19 2008 because the milk from China is tested to be tainted with Melamine which cause a panic in China now.

Panicked parents have crowded China’s hospitals and demanded redress since officials and the Sanlu Group, the country’s biggest maker of infant milk powder, said two weeks ago that babies developed kidney stones and other complications after drinking the tainted milk.

These products include milk, ice—cream, yoghurt, confectionery such as chocolates, biscuits and sweets as well as any other products containing milk from China as an ingredient.

The newspaper did not release the whole list of banned products of imports as it listed above but it’s better be safe then sorry.

Do take note and watch out for cheaper brands from China especially it’s food.

UPDATE:

Previously, a toxicology study had conducted after recalls of contaminated pet food concluded that the combination of melamine and cyanuric acid in diet does lead to acute renal failure in cats.[20]

Ingestion of melamine may lead to reproductive damage, or bladder or kidney stones, which can lead to bladder cancer.[16][21][22][23][24]

A study in 1953 reported that dogs fed 3% melamine for a year had the following changes in their urine: (1) reduced specific gravity, (2) increased output, (3) melamine crystalluria, and (4) protein and occult blood.[25]

Are you sure there are so many banned prodcuts? How come these products are not shown in the papers?
  • Simon Tay
These are sent to me by others, only those labeled (Confirmed) is from the papers.

It’s your own risk for now until further confirmation.

There are rumors about China’s tainted milk got higher level of Melamine…

Just to be sure, hopefully no one else get sick.
  • concern mum
May I know who is your source for all other products not shown in the papers?
  • Simon Tay
Friends and readers just like you, they send me bits and pieces circulated via emails.

These list may not be confirmed list of products by Singapore newspaper.

There are products listed here which are packaged in other location instead of China hence deem safe to consume according to the newspaper.

However, do note that we should take extra precaution on health related food products and don’t consume in excess of anything.

I do hope the health ministry can come out with a “SAFE To CONSUME” label ASAP to calm the public and regain confidence in “Milk” related products.

Is it safe to consume milk products from countries like Australia and New Zealand ? What about chocolates made in Australia and America?
  • Simon Tay
I think there shouldn’t be a problem taking milk produced from other country… but this question is very sensitive as it concern health and lives of others.

The best is check with the local health authorities on this to find out more.

There might be more stuff showing up in the news soon with this development.

According to Asia One’s survival guide…not all brands comes from China even if it’s listed here.

The same brand and goods can come from multiple sources, eg. one batch from China and another batch from other country like Australia.

Hi, the Dutch lady milk (honeydew and banana has also been confirmed tainted.

Can we get a refund from the supermarket if we happen to purchase these products ?
  • Simon Tay
    yy,

You probably can get a refund provided that you still have the receipt and only those shops that issues receipts can allow you to prove beyond the benefit of any doubt of your purchase with them.

These locations might be limited to big Supermarkets, 7-11, Cheers and etc.

If you have them in your procession and it’s not “confirmed” cases, my advice is to let it expire gracefully hehe :)

Hopefully everyone is alright and not affected seriously.

What’s the reason why they want to put melamine in the milk?
  • Simon Tay
The practice of adding “melamine scrap” to animal feed is reported to be widespread in China in order to give the appearance of increased protein content in animal feed.[34]

So it’s to fake the “protein” content to look like it’s higher level.
  • A reader.
I don’t think there are so many banned products in Singapore, if so, we might as well not eat anything. Because, a lot of things come from dairy products..
  • Simon Tay
I too hope you are right, the above list are not 100% confirmed as most are sent to me via email.

I myself can’t help drinking coffee 3-in-1 from Nescafe but they are not in the list…haha

I think the above are those products that are known to be produced directly from China.

I am not sure about other products that have milk base from other country…most likely it won’t be that bad but as I mentioned in my comments previously…it’s better safe than sorry.

Not all products that we eat have China Milk…hehe That’s the only comfort I get…for now.
  • Alex
I think you should update your list to show that Lotte Koala is confirmed to contain melamine. Test in Macau confirm it.
  • Simon Tay
    updated! Thanks Alex!!
  • AVA Explain!!!
    Hi,

DO you all remember the July 2007 White Rabbit Creamy Candy formaldehyde contamination incident?

I wonder Y AVA FAILED TO CHECK FOR MELAMINE CONTAMINATION? They like to give fuc* Tup Reason like eg. It’s not fesible for us AVA to test for ALL CONTAMINATION. SO WE JUST TEST SELECTIVELY!!!

So maybe 1 year later 2009 u may find ur food being contaminated with bleaching agent!! Cos to make the candy looks more nicer and whiter. Den they will start all over again to test all food for bleach. Isn’t it stupid?

Anyone care to explain Y AVA test selectively?
  • Simon Tay
Currently, I heard from news that it may be costly to test for every toxins in all the food products…

I myself is angry with this as I had consume the “House of Steam Potato” crackers months back in large quantity.

It’s almost like the AVA pushing responsibility to one single reason which blames nobody.

Now they are scrambling to contain the panic and massively test all products in their best capabilities and even roped in people who test pet food and others for assistance.

The Chinese news paper says that their fridge is almost bursting with milk related products and had to move them to another storage location!

I wondered if AVA is aggressive enough in their quality assurance for food imported from China and other countries.

Hopefully this will be the last of the last case of tainted food otherwise we can go back to stone age where food had to be hunted down by ourselves and cooked by ourselves to remain sure it’s free of added poisons to hurt our family health.

Well…there goes the pollution problem…to taint the food in the wild with pollution…hmm

Let’s start a super organic, pollution free, zero tainted food farm?? Well…not in Singapore…I guess.

Mostly all these food are tainted to fool the quality checks for higher protein or “Vitamins” value to boost their value or quality checks.
  • Eric
    Thanks for sharing this information.

The Philippines haven’t banned anything yet but still testing the products.

  • Simon Tay
Well, thanks for your update about cadbury Chocolates.

Just check if it’s “Product Of China” label on it.

If made from China or if in doubt…don’t eat it.

Is Take One Baby Bite really banned?
My 17-month-old baby boy consumed at least 5 boxes from the day he can eats solid food.
    Please advised.
  • Simon Tay
The above list is sent to me by others hence I cannot “confirm” the accuracy of the list until there is a News Article to confirm beyond the benefit of an doubt that they are in fact tainted or not.

The Confirmed case are listed above for people to take appropriate actions such as taking a full body check up specifically on melamine effects on the body.

The rest are believed to be just “suspected” cases….which may be very hard to confirm due to the method that they are tainted…in different batches.

Some batches may be free of melamine…and some are…so the AVA in Singapore are not going to release any list of products that are “Fully Free of Melamine” just yet.

Hopefully this clarify things, I am just a concerned blogger that wish to inform others about the possibility of food that may be tainted but does not represent any official body to give any announcement.

The above list can be found in many emails circulating around the internet which I had compiled is the hopefully the latest list of products that maybe tainted with Melamine and those confirmed ones by news reports.

If you have any news of other products discovered to be tainted in your country…do let me know so I can update this list to assist others to do the right thing.
