"Ghost" MRT Station: Woodleigh Station?
According to AsiaOne News:
WHILE the public-transport system has improved in the past few years, residents living near Woodleigh Station are still wondering when they can enjoy the convenience of having a train station nearby.
SBS Transit has delayed the opening of the station indefinitely, due to the insufficient number of residents living in the vicinity.
The 57ha piece of land beside the station, which was designated as a residential area and site of 12,000 new high-rise homes for about 40,000 residents by HDB in 2001, is still empty five years after the North East Line (NEL) opened in June 2003.

I am not going to put any virtual “white elephant” in this blog haha but my little suspicion on why SMRT decided not to open the Woodleigh MRT Station instead of cashing in?
Let me list a few of my little “suspicion” on the reasons why it stayed closed.
- There are too few people staying just beside the MRT (less than 1km)
- There are fears by MRT official to see ghost at night by the train operators
- They are afraid of seeing more elephants then people?
- Nobody build mega suburb shopping complex around the MRT station.
- They are afraid of making a loss by spending money to maintain the MRT Station (I wondered what is the state of it now.)
- They fear the the cost of electricity used for billboards and Ezlink Card top up terminal cost more than the profit from “small” number of users.
- They afraid of skateboarders discovering this underground “youth park”.
- They afraid of illegal mass gatherers meet there and protest?
Solution to make the station open?
- Build dormitory there?
- Build more shopping center?
- Allow massive pasar-marlam (street flea markets) to be settle down there permanently
- Allow car boot sales there
- Allow UK Fair there!!
- Hype up a container bar there and advertise!
- Make is another environmentally friendly theme park?
- Set up another major project to draw visitors!
- Build more elephant parks…err.
Ok, comments welcome!
