SMS Cheat User for Subscription!!! (Friend Got Scammed!)

My friend met me today and related to me a serious scam that he got burned recently. It’s almost unavoidable and he was clueless why it happened in the first place.

He first received an SMS below

He did not reply thinking this is a scam and Ignored it….

This bill arrived at his door and he got a shock of his life!

The charges comes as ER11 Content Download Services and each SMS sent to HIM is charged $6 from him!.

He told me that he ignored the SMS and got charged for that month a total of $23 for nothing!!

This weird SMS actually does an subscription to his mobile account without his consent and charged to his bill with an “opt out” option instead of the usual “opt in” option.

This is clearly an scam or illegal business practice that is totally not fair as my friend never subscribe to any download services at all.

He angrily called the services provider many times and found out the services is from “Ericsson IPX” and gave him an telephone number to follow up with them. When he called “Ericsson IPX”, they claim is some third party company from Australia using their services to bill their “customers” via mobile phone for their “services” such as an download of ring tone or wallpaper.

The question is my friend NEVER subscribe to their services in the first place and never download ANYTHING. This is clearly a loop hole for criminals or hustlers to collect money from spamming Singapore mobile users SMS and charge them illegally via legal service providers!!!!!

I understands from him that he sometimes kept his bluetooth on and I told him it is a serious security problem as hackers can use bluetooth hack to take over his phone to send subscription SMS to illegal numbers without their knowledge. This I had learn from videos in youtube “The Real Hustlers”

So be very careful about turning on your bluetooth when you are not using them! Keep them off at all times unless you are using it.

Its apparently based in Thailand

According to the “Splash Mobile” website that Splash is a premium rate service that complies with the guidelines as laid out by the IDA in Singapore. This obviously got some kind of flaw of some sort. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT put in your mobile number in this website!!!!!

Hi, I found your page when I googled for “splash mobile scam”. Did your friend take any action? My dad is currently facing the same situation – $36 for nothing that he has downloaded or subscribed to. I’m really angry about it and will be taking action. I’ll leave my email here: little_tiggie@hotmail.com

The telco is not moderating illegal scams such as this and they had quoted service provider Erisson IPX many times that does not really reach the criminals that are using their services to scam the world.

The current situation is to set up a group of users who got scammed and report to the telco and local authorities. The most important is to retain all the evidences to show for legal actions.

The problem is not much victims will go to court over small amount of money cheated…so the criminal will get away with it again…but they scammed millions away from thousands of people.

This is huge…and the telco is earning part of the money too…so complain to newspaper and media if possible.

Get your refund…and make sure everyone knows about this.
