LABOUR chief Lim Swee Say has this advice for the 30,000 job seekers in Singapore: There are still jobs out there.
Speaking at a May Day Rally on Friday, Mr Lim said there are some 19,000 jobs still available, out of which 8,000 pay above $2,000 a month, in the e2i job gallery.

- While the above article looks like another round of “rosy” forecast for jobs hunting people in Singapore however I felt that the 19,000 jobs may not be 100% goes to local Singaporeans.
The unfortunate thing is many Singaporeans are still hunting for the higher paying job instead of getting more working experiences with lower paying jobs, sometimes it’s not about the pay but the “relevant experiences” that counts.
Some does blame FT for the high competition on higher paying jobs causing much frustration among job finders and I don’t blame them feeling that way but in order for local to have more jobs is to have more customers.
But to be fair for FT, they are the best bunch of workers to work with and never a day was bored with them as they think very differently from locals with much more practical goals and less the egos.
They are excellent working pals and always very “ga-rang” (hard working) because their living conditions forced them to be more “on the ball” to earn more.
They have to share flats or house with many FTs or face high cost of rentals, they send back money to their family back home leaving very little for them to “enjoy” any luxuries or entertainment.
We should learn more about why the locals find it harder to accuire jobs and face up the realities fast.
