According to Asia One News:
A 16-YEAR-OLD girl here created fake profiles on popular social networking sites MySpace and Facebook with a single-minded purpose: To befriend those she disliked in school.
Once the connections were made, the teen turned on her schoolmates, hurling nasty insults at them.
The bullying was reminiscent of a now infamous 2006 case where American teenager Megan Meier killed herself after being taunted online.
In that case, the mother of a former friend created a phoney online profile to bully the girl.
According to psychologist Vanessa von Auer, the Singaporean girl was discovered by the school before her victims could suffer any deep emotional scars.
Psychologists, counsellors and teachers, however, are worried that the methods of Singaporean cyber bullies have morphed into something more vicious than before.
A 2006 survey found that a quarter of 3,488 Singaporean students polled had been victimised by cyber bullies.
Traditionally, these bullies target victims through e-mail messages or forum postings. Now, experts say, the bullying has turned ‘viral’.

- Personally, I had experienced cyber bully once in Youtube when I tried my best to make a DIY Power Generator using magnetic energy but was viciously criticized and more was done to make me feel so negative that I almost end my miserable life.
The bully resorted to the following taunting.
- Create multiple accounts to comment on my videos negatively
- Made a video to criticize my innovation (include a portion of MY video in his)
- Ask his “fans” to criticize my video openly everywhere in the Internet (Forums, blogs and more)
- Declare he is not “bullying” and tried to defend his right to criticize.
The result is I will never post my innovation online ANYMORE and even if I had any break through in my invention…it will be a private affair and never again share with people.
This means less solution to the world energy problems with such bullies around.
Problems caused by cyber bullying
- Many people committed suicide after getting depressed after being bullied in the Internet
- Many bullies get organized and commit identity theft by hacking multiple accounts of their victims including MSN, Hotmail, Facebook, Friendsters and more.
- Bullies pretend to be friendly and tried to get all your secrets and eventually “declare war” on their victims.
- Mass Suicides by their venerable victims and most of them still very young
Solutions to cyber bullying
- Set a law to ban bullying with punishment of heavy fines & banning Internet or use of computer of any sort for 1 year. (Monitored periodically by all ISP) Violators get jail & fines.
- Tracking all bullies by their “IP Address” and catch by cyber crime police department and share the information internationally.
- Label all these bullies as terrorist as they are posing as much threat to the general population as terrorist do.
They often succeed in causing grieve, sadness, fear and depression that will cost the society dearly in the long run.
If bullies can get away from “indirect killing” their victims, it’s the same as crashing planes into buildings.
- All blogs & networking sites (facebook, friendsters, myspace and etc) to change their terms and condition to add in banning all abusive accounts permanently that committed excessive unfriendly comments or behaviors such as taunting or “flaming” other users or members.
Unfortunately, bullying will not stop by the hand of the law as there is a very thin line between freedom in the Internet and total lock down by the authorities even if they have the resources.
The authorities cannot clearly define what is considered as “bullying” and what is pure constructive criticism that may be “good” for their potential targets to correct their mistakes.
Who will be considered as being bullied? Someone who don’t admit mistakes and refuse all kind of “reasoning” by someone who knows more?
Let me try to set up a guide to identify cyber bullying
- They taunt excessively.
- They create great exposure of the criticism of your mistakes using tools online like video sharing sites, forums, networking sites like facebook, friendsters to enlarge your “shame” or “Expose” your mistakes.
- They create multiple FAKE accounts to make similar criticism at your mistakes to enlarge their own ego and the victims “pain”.
- Some resorted to hacking their victims account and defaced their blog or facebook putting disgusting words to their profile to degrade their victims.
- The bully usually have a legion of fans that join the bully to reign terror on other people’s mistakes or “scandal”.
The media tends to be liable to be sued legally for defamation but is it prime time that these cyber bullies face the same kind of legal punishment as well?
Does your kids deserve such legal protection from cyber bullies?
