According to AsiaOne News:

Action star Jackie Chan did not only offend the Chinese living in Hong Kong and Taiwan, his “speech of freedom” that drew widespread ire recently also spoke badly about Singaporeans.

He had apparently said that Singaporeans have no sense of self-respect.

Chan, who spoke last Saturday at the Boao Forum for Asia, said that the Chinese have to be controlled or society would be “chaotic” like that of Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Local Chinese evening daily Shin Min Daily News reported that in the action star’s speech, Singaporeans too, were not spared.

During the forum’s question and answer session, Chan said in his reply to a question from the media, “When I go to Singapore, I realize that chewing gum is not allowed there. Why is this so?

“I found out later that if (Singaporeans) chew gum, they will dispose of the used gum on tabletops, on chairs, and (they) have no sense of self-respect.”

- After a box office dump at his latest movie…he is about to make a another big “last pitch” to create controversy or official “Free Media” advertising.

By trying to say “offending” phrases in Chinese or Cantonese and later have to let his publicist clarify that it’s just a misunderstanding…it is too late.

His reputation of a “New Year Comedy Action Hero” had been tarnished beyond repair by his latest NC 16 movie.

When I was in the the theater few weekend back, watching his latest movie Shinjuku Incident, something happened to ticked off a female fan when Daniel Wu’s face was disfigured & hands chopped off and the fan just stood up and left!!! OMG!

I thought that was a cool movie and the violence is just enough to entertain my “level” of action movie but it’s just lacking the usual Jackie Chan’s stunts to keep me peel for the next action sequence.

However, this time round he is really acting and not just jumping around and make funny faces…but really acting.

The other cast are equally great with the final scene a scary but believable…shows that in time of crisis it is everyman for themselves regardless of their race, or their origin.

Well, back to the topic of Jackie Chan saying Singaporeans got no “respect”…I think he is just trying to boost his newsworthiness and it’s nothing to shout about.

In the show business, bad news or good news…as long as it’s publicity…it’s great news! So, kindly ignore him and let him retire happily…err if he is going to retire…I am not sure.

Some rumors on the Chewing Gum ban is actually because of the “MRT” door unable to close incident that sparks the ban of chewing gum and of course the dirty black patches on the floor then was a ugly sight too.

About freedom of speech, he is going to get a torrential of freedom of speech from netizen on blogs & forums or even facebook…if he keeps on bashing people around the world.

For me, I am neutral…as long he makes a good movie…I will still support him…maybe in some other ways like borrowing from rental store or “other cheaper alternatives”.
