Jurong Entertainment Centre Closed? – Felt like Doomsday!
Just now at evening 6.30pm, I decided to have my dinner at Jurong Entertainment Centre where I used to go for movies & shooting basketball at the arcade.
I alighted at Jurong East MRT and walk along the covered walkways with the usual huge number of people walking towards to the traffic lights.
The usual phamplet givers were there giving out pieces of advertising which most people instantly transformed into trash and threw it into the dustbin and sometimes became litters on the ground.
I am contemplating which fast food or food court to have my dinner but to my HORROR the whole shopping centre IS CURRENTLY CLOSED!
Yes, I mean the WHOLE shopping centre!!
There is a yellow chain right at the entrance of the Jurong East Entertainment Centre together with a metal gate.
I can’t believe my very eyes! I had ever seen shops changed tenants before and usually placed a sign such as “renovating” or “New Exciting Shops Coming Soon!” sign.
However, there is only one sign to say “Notice Of Temporary Closure Of Jurong Entertainment Centre”.
The notice include a leasing enquiries telephone contact number!!
This means there are no immediate tenants in queue to take over this shopping centre!
While I was circling around the shopping centre, I managed to take some photos and felt a great sense of loss!
There were places have smells of urine and some clues of lack of maintenance like a broken ceiling on the 2nd floor and etc.
I kind of felt like I was transported into one of those apocalyptic movies that featured abandoned towns or cities…this is a whole shopping centre!
I tried to look through the glass doors and I can see all the way to the other end of the shopping centre!
There are litters inside the shopping centre and some paper left over probably since 31st October 2008 when all the tenants moved out of the shopping centre like MacDonald’s, KFC and many other shops!
What I missed is arcade which have the basketball shooting booth where I used to train my skills against the time…spent quite a lot of precious money in the process.
Well, I guess this is the new trend as the global economic crisis swallowed up more victims!
I tried to remember my previous article on Jurong East Entertainment Centre written way back in 25 June 2008 seems to point out that the management of the food court there seems to be causing some kind of bad reputation over bad food quality.
Update on the coffee shop opposite my house at Bukit Batok West Ave 5 had been taken over by a much better coffee shop chain and taste much better now.
I believe if the economy goes down more…there might be more such shopping centre to be forcibly closed down.
