According to AsiaOneNews:
MORE free time did not result in more babies, so people should go back to work on Saturdays.
Yesterday, Nominated MP Loo Choon Yong threw up the most provocative suggestion so far when he questioned the benefits of the five-day work week.

- This is a seriously not benefiting debate and creating havoc with the lives of the people in Singapore, I can imagine the situation stated below.
- Workers who had borrowed money for upgrading their skills on Saturday sudden find themselves unable to attend their classes because of this.
- Even less marriage due to higher stress and less free time to socialize with others.
Seriously, I doubt the lack of babies are due to number of working hours but giving more time for Singaporean to socialize may bring rewards in the future…but the key is to motivate people to go out and socialize in their free time.
What is the incentive to mingle with people where nowadays most people are pretentious & shamefully unable to shake off their “rich” image and be true & sincere in local pubs or karaoke lounge.
In the world of “elite” or “elite pretenders” of self induced depression or stress, nobody can easily make babies without worries about COST of bringing up the babies and TIME to look after the baby in Singapore…
With competitiveness of Singapore makes many parents totally blinded with “pride” on comparing their children with their friends, colleagues or neighbors.
Most modern couples may even consider totally childless in Singapore due to the “trouble”, “cost”, “stress”, “pride”, “fear”, “lack of time” and lastly many people may be infertile for whatever reasons such as over does of melamine food stuff to unhealthy diet & lifestyles.
Seriously, more time on hand does only benefits to many people in Singapore compared to less free time…however it’s possible for employers to give employee the benefit of flexibility of choosing their number of working hours by paying them by the hour….but with the risk of getting burned out.
I hope the government can consider not to meddle with the working hours or number of days for the workers and let the people have the freedom to choose themselves.
The decisions to have children or not depends heavily on the lifestyles, social habits, number of “fun” locations to socialize, more romantic places to pick up girls & dating, easing of fears of bringing up children with cheaper schools & cheaper food for people with babies, cheaper or free hospitalization for giving birth, free government nannies for babies and many more ideas to benefit those who give birth in Singapore.
Seriously…Singapore lack of places to visit to know people and have real fun…and most people simply stayed at home and surf net instead.
I don’t believe going back to 5 1/2 work week will make more babies for Singapore.
Personally I suggest treat “Mother as Queen” System for Singaporeans.
- Government sponsored Nannies for babies below the age of 8
- Government sponsored 50% of school fees, food, stationary & transportation of kids from kindergarten to tertiary education (Poly or JC).
- Government sponsored medical care & hospitalization for the first 3 child birth.
- Government to certify all education certification obsolete & declare no comparison between schools in public media and make all schools equal standing.
- Government paying employers $$ or corporate tax rebates per Singaporean employee giving birth for both MOTHER & FATHER.
- Government sponsored work from home scheme (free laptop, cheaper internet connection & free training) for potential mothers.
- Government sponsored “queen” discounts for food, utilities, internet, mobile bills and baby products.
I believe this will be WAY MORE MONEY that the government can give…so fat hopes.
