Today I got an email to complain about noisy mahjong session in HDB Flat.
Hi thereI hereby write in to complain the noises made from my neighbor due to mahjong sessions during everyday of weekdays esp days on Tuesday and Thursday is fixed. I suspected they are having some illegal gambling mahjong activity at home. They always start at 5.30pm to 11pm or even later in midnight 1am. Some of these people still peep through my house windows when they come. Let me know if there is ways i can do stop all these..
I feel very insecure as I always alone with my kid most of the time.
Affected Location: Blk 504 Jurong west street 51 Level 3.thanks and regards,Ms Ng
Yes, today I shall do justice to both the mahjong players & non-mahjong players.
I believe Ms Ng is not a mahjong player and have difficulty understanding why must there be such a noisy game nearby her house and with such regularity.
Just to neutral here, I don’t play mahjong unless special occasion but I do know many mahjong players in my circle of friends & colleagues.
Let me list out the rumoured rules of playing mahjong in Singapore.
(Not the game rules but those once broken you will have some pending fines slap across the face)
- There can only be one table per location being played at any one time, if there are two or more may be considered illegal hosting of gambling den which will be illegal.
- Mahjong Games can never go beyond 10pm as noise level will affect neighbors.
- If neighbors complained about the noise level, the game should be stopped or kept as quiet as possible.
- By right all mahjong games in Singapore cannot play real money (unless a legalized licensed casino) but it’s imppossible to enforce hence the police usually “close one eye”.
There are many other similar cases about complains on noise created by mahjong sessions by inconsiderate players.
The deadly spark of mahjong noise… (This ended with death!!)
I believe there should be a win-win situation instead of ending the relationship with the neighbors and be frustrated, unhappy, sad, angry, depressed and helpless about the noise problem and the mahjong gamers find themselves losing more $$$ through fines…or even worst being cursed.
Let me list a couple of wacky solutions for gamers who care.
- Buy the Automatic Mahjong Table to at least eliminate the noise of shuffling the mahjong tiles.
- Sound Proof your game room with proper sound absorber.
Solutions for disturbed neighbors who failed to convince the mahjong gamers to stop their game or reduce the noise levels.
- Post your complain here by emailing me at simontay78@gmail.com with photographs if possible.
- Post your complain in the newspaper
- Report Police if you find out they had violated any laws stated above.
- Consult other neighbors to form a petition signatures against mahjong noise level after 10pm and send to the police or newspaper or here.
- Print out the news and paste at their door and don’t leave your name.
- Get a ear plug? (Unfortunate but this is the last option, some construction ear muff is great)
I bet the PR guys from the town council will be rushing to mediate the situation…
