Preparing for the first H1N1 Flu Case in Singapore

According to AsiaOne:

Action plan on detecting first cases

When we encounter our first confirmed cases, we will still try to contain the outbreak here, treating the patients, quarantining the close contacts and issue a health advisory for the other contacts.

For example, if there is a confirmed case who is a student, we will isolate him in a hospital and treat him. We will screen all other students and staff in the school, but other than the close contacts, for example, his close friends, classmates and their teacher, there is no need to close the school and quarantine all staff and students. But we will remind the students, parents and teachers to be alert to any flu-like symptoms and to let us know immediately.

Swine Flu

Currently, the people that I had met or even all the surrounding people seems to had almost forgotten about H1N1 after the threat warning color had came down to Yellow from Orange and there seems to be a slight complacency going on right NOW.

It seems that everything is alright and nobody should worry about anything until things get out of hand, there are some parents who I spoke to says even if their children are sick…they dare not send them to the clinic because there might be others there that might spread the REAL H1N1 virus in the waiting area.

I understand their fears as most clinics don’t have free mask to give away while they wait in the “air conditioned” & enclosed space with other sick patients.

The fear might be viewed as “alarming” as the longer the real cases are hidden at home without proper knowledge by the right authorities to “quarrantine” the real cases…the outbreak might be even harder to contain.

I think that’s how the Mexico death cases comes down because those infected are fearful of going to report to the hospitals thinking they might just got the common flu instead and don’t want to mix with the real infected patients and get affected.

What I feel this must have a implication on how the outbreak will spread and the challenges ahead for the health ministry to tackle, the clinics nearby should give all suspected flu paitients some kind of mouth cover to prevent spreading to other none infected patients within the clinic as a compulsary measures.

Well, currently the panic had came back down in Singapore and probably the world and even the twitter trends are more on #Startrek than #swineflu hence probably the next big wave might come unexpectedly and suddenly…with sick people littering the whole transport system such as the buses & trains.

Be prepared with at least a mask with you even if you are not sick so that whenever you are caught in a very crowded area, you can protect yourself should the need arises.

Remember all the places you had touched and treat ALL places you had touch as CONTAMINATED and sanitise your hand before touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Wash your hands as often as possible and give the soap more time before washing.

Time is probably near that the flu is just outside your door, it’s just up to you now.
