Singapore 2 under surveillance

According to The Straits Times:

TWO Singaporeans who returned from Mexico are on voluntary phone surveillance even though the home quarantine order has yet to kick in, and there are still no probable cases of Influenza A(H1N1-2009) in Singapore.

The seven-day home quarantine order for those who return from Mexico and other affected regions kicks in on Monday, but in the interim, phone notification and surveillance will be enforced, said the Ministry of Health on Saturday.

Members of the public are advised to postpone or avoid non-essential travel to Mexico and the affected areas. But if travel is unavoidable, the public must take precautionary measures such as avoiding crowded areas and maintaining high standards of personal hygiene such as such as washing hands frequently with soap and water.

- Singaporean volunteer to self quarantine at home! A very noble and selfless act indeed! These 2 brave Singaporeans did the right thing to self quarantine themselves to avoid outside physical contact.

Hopefully they will be given all the assistance they need such as free masks and flu medicine if required as they cannot even go out to buy for themselves or worst can’t get hold of any in the pharmacy like me.

It seems the situation is getting out of hand in Hong Kong where they are trying to hunt down 50 people who had closed contact with a flu patient before the Hong Kong hotel he checked into was sealed off.

The Metropark Hotel in Wanchai was ordered locked down and more than 300 guests and staff placed under quarantine for seven days, after the 25-year-old from Mexico tested positive last Friday for the Influenza A (H1N1) virus.

Police wearing masks and gloves surrounded the hotel yesterday, while health workers in biochemical suits were seen hauling boxes of Tamiflu into the lobby.

Looks like it’s going to be 7 days to know for sure how many people in that hotel were infected or how badly the infection spreads, pray hard that it’s not as bad as it looks.
