Weird Motorcycle Parking Fees (Unverified Yet)

According to an unknown guest chat:

Guest:  would like to comment about Vivo City motorcycle parking charges. If I park my motorcycle at Vivo City from 6pm to 12am, it cost me $4.00 (1st 3 hours – $1.00 and subsequent hour or part thereof $1.00 x 3 hours).
It will be worst if I park longer than that. However, for car it only cost $2.50 per entry charge to park from 6pm to 12am. The space of parking of motorcycle is 4 times smaller that a car.
This is really unfair to motorcyclist. Nearby building Habourfront centre and St James, MapleTree do not allow motorcycle parking and Keppel tower have some restriction on motorcycle parking.
I feel that they don’t welcome motorcyclist by MapleTree and they think we can’t afford to shop in their premises.
- The above is from a quick chat on my google talk back function, personally I am not a license driver yet hence don’t know if the above is true or not.
Anyone who ride motorcycle here do help to verify if it’s true or not.
If this is true, then the above Vivo City parking charging method seems to be slightly off the mark or if it’s an error.
Well, unless there were a hike in parking fees and the guy don’t know exactly how much for both motorcycle or car…and mistaken it for the parking for motorcycle to be higher…
The problem
  1. Motorcycle parking more expensive then car?
  2. Less people use motorcycle to go Vivocity means less business?
  3. Vivocity look down on motorcyclist?
  4. This problem not verified yet….it may not be an issue.
Solutions suggested:
  1. Go drive a car?
  2. Go to Vivocity information counter and ask for clarification on this.
  3. Go by MRT or bus
  4. Once got information above, email to me to verify or comment below.
  5. If verified, time to put the full charges on this blog to let people make their own decisions if to use the motorcycle to go Vivocity or by other means.
I wondered if there are any bicycle parking charges….if there are, I bet I won’t go there in the future by bicycle….hee.
My personal feeling is this complain is just one of many that belong to the “inflation” catergory and the rising cost of living portion.
There was a time when I felt things are over priced just for tourist at certain locations such as Newton Circle, Sentosa, China Town, Bugis Street, Zoo and more but suddenly we saw all kinds of tourist everywhere….and the prices creeps up at locations such as Harborfront Vivocity and other major shopping centres at Orchard and now everywhere is rising.
We have somethings to cheer is during this economic crisis, there will be more SALES everywhere such as the biggest electronic fair at EXPO this weekend and many more.
Check out EXPO schedules and Suntec Convention Hall schedules for any special exhibitions that usually have many speical sales promotions for the more street smart locals.

Hi, yes there is indeed a raise in the parking prices for Bikes but i do not remember the details. I ve already boy cott the place already. In the rare event tat i go, i’ll park at Power Stn although will ve to walk farther.

    Some points to Note
    - Most places tat charge Bikes for parking is around 65cent to max of $1. (Most places provide free parking)
    - Y free parking, becoz the space given to Bikes are actually places INACCESSIBLE BY CARS thus unavailable space for other stuff.
    - For Vivo, most of the space for Bikes are Narrow Passageway behind cars and 1 spot is actually UNDERNEATH THE RAMP which is the entrance to the carpark. INACCESSIBLE TO CARS also…

Glad tat someone actually mention this. At the same time, should mention the shopping malls tat ban Bikes from entering their carparks.

Daniel, what is your view on the outcome of the Singaporean who was killed in Mumbai? Could she been saved if the special forces moved in earlier or better negotiation could have been made to the terroists?

Hi Guolian, I find it very weird that you asked me this question on another issue which is totally unrelated to the Topic that Simon has blogged about. If you really like to hear my opinion, pls email me.

To Simon, additionally some shopping mall ve cease to allow bikes into their carparks. Forgot to bring the newspaper clipping but i believe it’s on the 27th Nov Today. Will reconfirm.

Hi Daniel, sorry I thought you are the blog owner and I am interested to know the views of this issue coming from the minds of fellow Singaporeans. This is the first time a Singaporean got killed by terrorists and is really a sad thing.

Regarding car park in Vivocity, I noticed a lot of cars parked illegally due to shortage of lots during weekends. This can be quite dangerous as the cars cause the road to be more narrow.
