I have a blog reader from Jakarta sent me the following email worrying about the recent China Milk Health Scare.
Dear Simon, Hello. I’m Rosa.A mother of a 10 months old baby currently dwelling in Jakarta.
Very concerned on this banned dairy products from China containing melamine.
Have given Empro baby choice – baby crackers for 4 months now since my baby really likes them.
Though they’re not on the list that S’pore made (on your blog), I’m still extremely worried, as it turned out that they’re originally manufactured in China & not in S’pore (as I thought before).
Perhaps you can assist me in getting any info on this matter.
Many thanks, Rosa.
I had requested for more information for clarification and I got more info. on the product from her.
Dear Simon,Thanks for replying soon. Sure, you can put our chat online. The more to know the better, right?
Checked the packages again & found the address but couldn’t capture it by camera. It says…..
Product of China
Manufactured for:
Empro Singapore Pte Ltd
No.4, Sungei Kadut Crescent
S’pore 728688
Tlp: 6261 2482Tried to search in google & found only this…..
http://www.alibaba.com/company/10207763.html Photos? Great ideas. Here goes. Hope they’re clear.
Many thanks,
Rosa.
She had sent me some photos of the crackers below.

I am not sure at all looking at the label behind if the crackers contain any milk from China only to find a brief description that it’s made from “fine quality rice”.
The label “Product of China” & “Manufactured for” is extremely confusing, does it mean “Manufactured BY China” ?
I cannot conclude if this product is tainted or not but if this product is distributed by a Singapore company then maybe the authority here can have a look at this product and test it for Melamine.
I cannot conclude anything now other than sending this information to my friends and ask them a favor to find out more information on this product if possible.
Anyone who have information concerning this product do let me know in this blog so that it can alert people about this if it’s dangerous to consume or not.
I had suggested Rosa to send her child to a medical check up if she is worried about the effects of any China Products and look out for the labels for food that may be made by China.
Hopefully this crisis can be over very soon, my condolence to all those affected.
The AVA in Singapore had advised us that it may need to consume huge amount of tainted food in order for the ill effects to take root.
For enquiries on affected products, consumers can call AVA’s hotline at 65 – 63257625 during office hours (8.30am—6pm, Monday—Friday).
For health concerns associated with the ingestion of melamine, consumers can call Ministry of Health’s hotline at 1800—2254122.
Consumers can also visit AVA’s website for more information.
I had checked the AVA’s website and only find the known products listed there for tainted Melamine so they should be testing other products at this current moment and this cracker may not be in the Singapore Market to begin with.
My question to them in their feed back form is :
- Do they test products that made in China distributed by Singapore Company?
- Is there a list of products that they had tested that is FREE of toxic for worried parents to reference instead of worried about the food they had fed their children and thinking the AVA had not tested them.
My advice to her now also have to include to inform her own country’s health authority as well to test sampling of food imported from overseas.
UPDATE! AVA Just replied me an email!
Dear Mr Simon TayPlease refer to your feedback on 28 Sep 2008.
2 The “Empro” Baby Choice rusks was tested for the presence of melamine and found to be satisfactory.
Yours sincerely
There you go, this should be a great response from AVA to the public concerns
Cheers for the public! If you have any more concerns do let me know! ^_^
